Stephen Hawking 史蒂芬霍金

前陣子NASA的新聞報導, 太空號Kepler-20已發現另一顆星球, 環境資源(氣溫及海洋)與地球非常地相似, 比地球大一些, 很有可能給地球人類帶來另一條遷居的希望. 這項興奮的發現讓國際間又開始廣泛地討論起, 在物理理論學與神秘太空科學研究領域中, 享譽國際的英國科學家 Dr. Stephen Hawking史蒂芬霍金博士所發表過及預測的理論. 在史蒂芬四十多年的教學演講與出版書籍中 (A Brief History of Time, The Grand Design), 他滿足了無數老老少少從小就常發問與感興趣的問題答案, 甚至解釋了有關時空之旅的理論.

"Where do we come from? How did the universe begin? Why is the universe the way it is? How will it end?

 

他甚至還說: 沒有人可以證明上帝不存在, 但科學卻讓上帝成為不必要的人物. 物理法則不需要有開天闢地始祖也可以解釋什麼叫宇宙." One can't prove that God doesn't exist. But science makes God unnecessary. The laws of physics can explain the universe without the need for a creator.

基於熱愛神秘的太空與物理, 史蒂芬成為不折不扣的NASA迷. 史蒂芬在大學時代就慢慢地出現了一種神精病變的症狀Motor Neuron Disease - 四肢開始萎縮, 到了三十出頭幾乎就無法行動與說話, 必須靠著一台專門設計的腦波感應發聲器來教學. 很久很久以前大家所聽到的"黑洞"一詞理論就是他研究發現的. 因為嚮往太空的奧秘, 英國一位企業家還全額資助史蒂芬, 讓他得以嘗試太空無重力的體驗. 看看他, 一位完全癱瘓的人在零重力之下也可以飄浮在太空中. 他笑得好開心!

"Many people have asked me why I am taking this flight. I am doing it for many reasons. First of all, I believe that life on Earth is at an ever-increasing risk of being wiped out by a disaster such as sudden nuclear war, a genetically engineered virus, or other dangers. I think the human race has no future if it doesn't go into space. I therefore want to encourage public interest in space."

史蒂芬一直強調也警告世人, 必須儘快為人類尋找外太空的居住星球. 因為將來人類的延續勢必在外太空領界, 為的是逃離隨時會來, 會發生的天災人禍, 如核戰及基因變造的病毒. 很久以前的人類太空之旅也是他先倡導的.

史蒂芬堅信, 等待著我們升天的天堂或是所謂的來世, 都是給那些怕死的人聽的童話故事. "A belief that heaven or an afterlife awaits us is a "fairy story" for people afraid of death." 

他還說: 雖然我過著心理有數隨時會死掉的日子已四十九個年頭, 但我不怕死, 也還不急著死, 因為還有好多事我還想做. "I have lived with the prospect of an early death for the last 49 years. I'm not afraid of death, but I'm in no hurry to die. I have so much I want to do first."
